Peter began his career as a journalist, becoming Brussels correspondent for The Times during the late 1980s, where he covered the European Union just when the EU single market took off, world trade rules were strengthened and plans took shape for the introduction of the euro.  He then became official EU Spokesman first under Sir Leon Brittan then under Romano Prodi, President of the EU Commission.

Peter is co-founder of Shearwater, a political advisory company operating out of Brussels, London and Washington D.C.

Peter was educated at Winchester College and Durham University. He has joint British and Belgian nationality and is fluent in French and Spanish.
